In India, the struggles of being a widow are enormous. In the past, if a woman survived after the death of her husband, she would be burned alive on the pyre of her deceased spouse. Though this is not in practice today, the widows of India are largely considered dead to society. Upon the death of their husbands, widows are often banished from family, friends, and employment, and regarded as a useless burden. Tradition requires them to shave their heads, since they are considered unworthy of being beautiful.
Widows in Need
Matthew 10’s Commitment
Matthew 10 International Ministries is committed to empowering these women to take roles in the church and seeing them find new lives and new purpose in Jesus Christ. Our goal is show them the love of Jesus while providing food, clothing, and shelter and giving them opportunities to mentor the orphaned children that are under our care.
Serving these women is a crucial part of our ministry, but we couldn’t do it without the help of friends like you. If the plight of the widows of India is something God is burdening your heart with, consider what you can do to help today, and visit our donation page for more information.
